The Train's visit to Steamtown was great despite the fact that it was raining most of Sunday!

Steamtown has Amtrak come into town every year for the Scranton Railfest weekend, but this year it was a special treat.  And for the local railfans, it was even better because of hurricane Irene.  The hurricane damaged some of the track that the Anniversary train was going to take from Albany to Scranton, but made a detour via Syracuse.

If you hung around on Sunday, you got the added bonus of watching the Amtrak train back out of Steamtown over the turntable.... pretty cool if I do say so myself!

Amtrak also brought in one of their track inspection cars, which was open for viewing.

Norfolk Southern had a couple of engines on display, and they had a real hard time starting the one at the turntable.... they probably worked on it for close to 45 minutes to get it going.  It would start, but they couldn't keep it running.  Guess they need to avoid the cheap gas stations :-)

By the end of the day, around 6pm, they had the anniversary train spotted at the "trolley station", posed for some nice shots!

My railfan guide to Scranton is here,
and my soon to be guide to Steamtown is here.
